The police rescued a baby from a year age, after a concerned passer-by raised the alarm.
The baby was found sleeping in the vehicle near the Gaza Mermaid Club in Wellington, New Zealand, at 3am yesterday morning.
The police arrested the father of 42 years of age, and took the baby to hospital.
The irresponsible faces a charge of leaving children under 14 without reasonable supervision, Inspector Simon Perry said.
A child welfare agency has been granted custody of the child for five days, while deciding his future.
The Commissioner for Children in New Zealand, John Angus, called it an extreme form "of neglect."
He said: "I congratulate the member of the public who saw this poor girl in the car and took some steps to take to a safe place."
